New Learning Community at MNU

Recent research conducted by the MNU Alumni Relations Office indicates alumni want more enrichment activities, including lifelong learning opportunities.

Based on that research, the Alumni Council is pleased to announce the first initiative in that vein: the Pioneer Book Club.

Developed by former MNU librarian Bruce Flanders (MSM 3) and the Affinity Events Committee, the Pioneer Book Club creates a new learning community for a broad audience. Some of the features of the Pioneer Book Club include:

  • Facilitated online
  • Open to alumni and friends, as well as faculty, staff, and students
  • Free-of-charge to participate (beyond the cost of the selected book)
  • Moderated by a library professional
  • Discussion topics updated on a weekly basis
  • Managed by MNU and presented within the context of our mission
  • Flexible enough to come and go through various discussion topics
  • Input from members on future book selections
  • 2-3 books per year

The Pioneer Book Club is ready for you today. Join in online discussions as we explore our first book, Nerves of Steel: How I Followed My Dreams, Earned My Wings, and Faced My Greatest Challenge by MNU alum Tammie Jo Shults ('83). She was in town February 2-4, speaking at the Olathe Public Library - Indian Creek Branch and at College Church of the Nazarene in MNU's community chapel.

Pioneer Book Club is hosted in a private Facebook Group. You may register by clicking the button below.
